Lachezar Tsotsorkov Foundation was established to honour the inspiring leader and great Bulgarian who believed that the purpose of human life was to make the world a better place.
Prof. Lachezar Dimitrov Tsotsorkov, PhD (October 16, 1945 – May 16, 2017) was born in Panagyurishte. A forward-looking manager and visionary for the modern development of the Bulgarian mineral resources industry, he headed Assarel-Medet AD for over 30 years and was president of the Bulgarian Chamber of Mining and Geology for over 25 years. He was decorated with the highest state award, ‘Stara Planina Order – first degree’ and was the winner of many national and international awards, including Manager of the Year 2009. Honorary citizen of the town of Panagyurishte and the town of Strelcha.
As one of the major Bulgarian donors and patron of Bulgarian culture, he has been repeatedly awarded the Golden Age Award by the Ministry of Culture. During his life, he supported many charitable causes and initiatives in the area of culture, education, health, sports, social welfare, and youth activities. His vision for the development of his hometown motivated large donations and partnership projects that changed the appearance of the municipality of Panagyurishte and created new prospects for the region.
