History

Lachezar Tsotsorkov Foundation was established in honor of the inspiring leader and great Bulgarian, who believed that the purpose of human life is to make the world a better place.

Prof. Dr. Lachezar Dimitrov Tsotsorkov (October 16, 1945 – May 16, 2017) is a native of Panagyurishte. As a general manager and visionary for modern development of the Bulgarian mineral resources industry, he headed Assarel-Medet for over 30 years and was Chairman of the Bulgarian Chamber of Mining and Geology for over 25 years.He is the winner of the highest state award – “Order of Stara Planina – first degree” and many national and international awards, including “Manager of the Year 2009”. He was declared an honorary citizen of the town of Panagyurishte and the town of Strelcha.

As one of the largest Bulgarian donors and patrons of Bulgarian culture, he has been repeatedly awarded the Golden Age Award by the Ministry of Culture. During his lifetime, he supported many charitable causes and initiatives for the development of culture, education, health, sports, social welfare and youth activities. His vision for the development of his hometown motivated large donations and partnership projects that changed the appearance of the municipality of Panagyurishte and created new prospects for the region.

Mission

He is the author of the books “Fundamentals of Company Culture” and “60 Moments from my life”. His interviews, along with memories of him, are collected in a book and film “Lachezar Tsotsorkov – the entrepreneur who loved people.”

His example of a great patriot, generous donor and worthy Bulgarian leaves an indelible mark, which will continue to live in the memory of generations and inspired his family to create the “Lachezar Tsotsorkov” Foundation in his honor.

The “Lachezar Tsotsorkov” Foundation was founded in 2019 and is a private foundation whose main goal is to contribute to the well-being of Bulgarians by supporting culture, talent development, promoting innovation and achievement in education and healthcare, and by helping disadvantaged children.
